AL
vs. Steel has good and bad points.
Aluminum |
Steel |
* Wear
more lead if all AL used (marginally) * Tank track better in slipstream * Offsets negative buoyancy of steel doubles * Less Buoyancy swing from full to empty (AL40 vs. Steel 46) * Unneeded cu ft in tank for the gas needs * so on |
* small
tanks due to lower working pressure * same bulkiness, less streamline * typically no weight belt and very heavy * nothing left to ditch * so on |
Thoughts,
I know there is many more points to discuss. AL makes the best staged deco bottles. AL or
Steel is a good hang or backup
O2 bottle.
Preference is an AL 40 cu ft for typical deco and AL 80 cu ft for longer and
deeper expeditions.
