Definitions-Short and to the Point

AT Atmospheres, 14.7 PSI
ATA Atmospheres Absolute: AT + 1
BT Bottom Time:
CNS Central Nervous System toxicity limitations
D Depth in FSW, FFW, MFW, MSW, or PSI
Dive Buddy A true buddy, not same day same ocean, a person that starts dive with you and finishes the dive with you including decompression time. You training and practice and/or use the same procedures.
Diving, Boat Any dive conducted from a boat (private or commercial)
Diving, Cave A dive where natural light is NOT visible to the diver at all times (this include wrecks or cavern structures). Special training is required!
Diving, Cavern A dive where natural light is visible to the diver at all times (this include wrecks or cavern structures). Special training is required!
Diving, Recreational Any dive to depths less than 130 FSW and NO planned decompression.
Diving, Shore Any dive conducted from the shore, not utilizing a boat.
Diving, Technical Planned decompression dive to any depth with any gas mixture that will support human life (well including cock roaches). Special training is required.
EAD Equivalent Air Depth:
EANx Equivalent Air Nitrox plus Oxygen percentage
END Equivalent Narcotic Depth or Equivalent Nitrogen Depth
Fg Fractional of Gas, 1 = FG1 + FG2 + FG3 ...
FHE Fractional HE
FN2 Fractional N2
FO2 Fractional O2
Gauges, Digital Use for Gas Mixing: Range 0 - 4000 or 0 - 5000, increment 1, error Spec 1/4% of range, i.e. 0 - 5000 psig is +- 12.5 psig
Gauges, SPG
Gradient Factor (GF): - GF:
- GFL (Low):
- GFH (High):
Helium Mixes: Helium mixes are any gas mixture with some helium content. The helium is used to reduce the narcotic affect of the nitrogen in the mix.
- HeliAir: A mixture of Helium and air as the top off gas (no additional oxygen is added). Resulting mix has a FO2 of less than .21 (21%).
- HeliOx: Any gas mixture of Oxygen and Helium only.
- NormOx: A gas mixture with a FO2 of approximately .21 (21%) Oxygen.
- Trimix: A typical gas mixture of O2/HE/N2 were Oxygen, Helium, and Nitrogen are blended together to achieve the desired mixture or percentage. The O2 content is greater than that which could achieved using a HeliAir mixing technique. The resulting mix has a FO2 of less than .21 (21%)
- TriOx: A typical gas mixture of O2/HE/N2 were Oxygen, Helium, and Nitrogen are blended together to achieve the desired mixture or percentage. The resulting mix has a FO2 of greater than .21 (21%). This mixture is generally used within the recreational depth limits to reduce the narcotic affects of Nitrogen and the benefits of Helium in any mix.
